Michael "Mike" Laschanzky, a devoted father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on July 17, 2025, at the age of 66. Born in Iowa on December 17, 1958, Mike was known for his quiet strength, unwavering commitment to family, and the love he generously shared with those around him.
Mike will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A visitation will be held at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport, Iowa, on July 24, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service from 11:00 AM to noon. Memorials may be made to the family.
Michael was born on December 17, 1958 in Iowa, son of Arthur and Evelyn (Billings) Laschanzky. In 1972 he met the love of his life at 14, Debra Seals. They later married on February 5, 1977. She preceded him in death on March 2, 2013.
Mike dedicated a significant portion of his life to his career, beginning at Thomson Trailers before moving on to Hope Creek, where he poured his heart into caring for his residents. His experiences as a social worker for many years reflected his deep desire to help others and to make a positive impact in their lives. He was not just a hard worker; he was a man who loved even harder, always putting the needs of his loved ones before his own.
Throughout his life, Mike cherished moments spent with his daughters, whom he loved more than anything. Their smiles brought him joy, and the memories they created together will forever be treasured. As a grandfather, he adored his only grandson, Kaleb, who was born April 9, 2018, to Michelle. Kaleb was the light of his life, and Mike was extremely proud of being a grandpa and working to foster a bond with Kaleb that will live on as he grows. Their outings to the park and the joy of watching Kaleb play baseball are memories that echo laughter and warmth. They had a connection that was unmatched. Mike’s selfless spirit was evident not only in his relationships with family but also in the way he made others feel at ease, offering a helping hand or a listening ear whenever it was needed.
An active individual, Mike found joy in yard work and taking care of his pool, ensuring that everything around him was meticulously maintained. He embraced an active lifestyle, running the Bix7 over 20 times—a testament to his strong determination and love for life.
As he moved through the world, Mike’s caring nature and integrity left lasting impressions on everyone he encountered. His presence was a source of comfort and inspiration, and he was always ready to uplift those in need. In a final act of selflessness, Mike chose to donate his eyes, providing the gift of sight to another—a fitting reflection of a life lived in service to others.
Those left to honor his memory include his children Michelle Yarham and Melissa Laschanzky; grandson Kaleb; siblings, Christine (John) Kurtz, Anne (Leroy) Tracy, Tom (Kathy) Devore and Chuck (Debbie) Devore; sister-in-law, Kim Seals, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Lori, Jessica, Madison, Ann, Kelly, Angie, Brandon, Josh, Hayden, and Izabella for being there and for their love and support in the final days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, siblings Barbara Peters, Linda Peters, Sandra Devore and Ramona Denkman, mother and father-in-law, Clara and Harold Seals, sister-in-law Diane, and canine companion Mr. Bubbles.
In this difficult time, we remember a beloved man whose legacy of love and kindness will forever resonate in our lives. Rest in peace, Mike. You leave behind a legacy of treasured memories, a family that loves you dearly, and a world that is better for having known you.
