Melissa Leonard

Melissa Sue Leonard, 69, of Blue Grass, Iowa died on Wednesday, January 31, 2018. The funeral will be 3:00 pm Thursday, February 8, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Chapel, 4929 Wisconsin Avenue, Davenport. The family will greet friends at the church Thursday from 1:00 pm until the time of the service. Burial will be in Buffalo Cemetery, Saville, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Melissa is survived by her husband, John Leonard; three children, Jill Leonard-Pingel (Joshua), Jodi McGinn (Dan), and Jaclyn Leonard; 5 grandchildren, Jacob, Seth, Graeme, Nate, and Abel; brothers, Dan and Mack Reiley and a sister, Mary Pederson.

Melissa was born on August 1, 1948 in, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, a daughter of James and Betty (Reapsome) Reiley. She is a 1966 graduate of West Perry High School in New Bloomfield, PA. In 1969 she married John Leonard in Loysville, Pennsylvania.

Melissa was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She spent her life serving others in the community and in her church in a variety of roles, including representing her church in Church’s United, working as a poll worker, and volunteering in local schools. She was recently serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Melissa also enjoyed gardening, painting, genealogy, and traveling.
