Maxine Joyce Rock Duhm, 88, a resident of Bettendorf, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2026 at her home.
Memorial services celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, August 3, 2026 at St. James Lutheran Church in Bettendorf. The family will greet friends from 10:00 am until the time of service at church. Private burial will be in the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Per her wishes cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Veteran Outreach Center, Davenport, Trinity College of Nursing, Rock Island or St. James Lutheran Church. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on March 26, 1938 in Davenport, Iowa, Maxine was the daughter of Elmer Henry and Wilma Caroline (Denk) Rock. On February 26, 1971, in Moline, Illinois she married Kenneth Frank Duhm. They enjoyed 43 years of marriage prior to Ken’s passing on December 6, 2014.
A graduate of Davenport High School, Maxine then attended Lutheran Hospital School for Nurses in Moline, graduating in 1959 as a Registered Nurse. Maxine then attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. In 1977 she completed her education at Florida Institute of Technology in 1979 where she was awarded a Master of Science Degree in Professional Management.
Maxine worked over 35 years as a nurse working at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence, Kansas, Bloomington Hospital, Bloomington, Indiana and Community Hospital in Indianapolis. She also worked in the office of Dr. Harold Manifold in Bloomington, Indiana. Maxine retired in 1993 from Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island, Illinois where she was in Nursing Administration.
Maxine was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Bettendorf; past member Sigma Theta Tau, National Honor Society for nursing; Life member University of Iowa Alumni Association; Putnam Museum; Friends of Vander Veer and The Figge Art Museum. Maxine was a dedicated volunteer. She valued her volunteer work at The Veterans Outreach Center, Wreaths Across America honoring veterans placing and removing flags at National Cemetery on the Rock Island Arsenal and various other community organizations.
She was a Guardian on past Honor Flights.
Those left to honor her memory include her sister, Vicky R. Blake of Clovis, California; step children, Kenneth David (Marceia) Duhm and Pamela Wilkerson; several nieces and nephews; step-grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved Ken, parents, and siblings Donna Huckfeldt, Nancy Campbell, LaMoyne “Bud” Rock and Loren Rock.
