Mary Leslie Kellenberger, née Schepker, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, in Florida, surrounded by her loving family. A Visitation will be held on April 14, 2026, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home (614 N Main St, Davenport, IA), followed by a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. An additional visitation will be held at St. John Vianney Catholic Church (4097 18th St, Bettendorf, IA) on April 15, 2026, at 9:30 a.m., preceding the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Following the Mass, Mary will be buried at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Vera French Foundation or to an animal shelter of your choice.
Mary was born on July 16, 1942, to Lester E. Schepker and Marjorie Sullivan Schepker in Davenport, Iowa. Mary’s life was one marked by dedication, compassion, and a zest for life. In Davenport, Mary attended Sacred Heart Cathedral School, Immaculate Conception Academy, and graduated from Assumption High School in 1960. She also attained an Associate’s degree from Marycrest College in Davenport. Mary had a distinguished career that included work in New York City, Armour-Dial Inc. in Arizona, Nehlsen Communications in the Quad Cities, as well as several years in banking.
In 1991, Mary married William “Bill” Kellenberger in Long Grove, Iowa. After Bill’s passing, Mary formed many dear friendships at the Suites of Bettendorf. In her final months, she was blessed to be in the presence and care of her son Richard Wolfe Jr.
Mary was an avid sports enthusiast and found joy in playing and watching golf. She passionately followed Notre Dame, March Madness, Assumption High School athletics, and professional tennis. Her quick wit and humor enlivened countless evenings spent playing board and card games with family and friends. She was also proud to have appeared on the television shows Jeopardy! and Tic-Tac-Dough.
Mary served on several boards and commissions, including the Board of Directors for Vera French and the Quad City Marathon, the Scott County Regional Authority Board, and the Judicial Magistrate Appointment Commission from 2014 to 2020. She was an active member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church and was involved with the Bettendorf Public Library.
Those left to honor Mary's memory include her sons, Richard Wolfe Jr. of New Mexico and Tucker (Amy) Wolfe of Arizona; stepdaughters Tory (Jeff) Dohrn of Davenport and Erin (Sean) Pottratz of Coralville, IA; grandchildren Noah and Andrew Dohrn and Anthony, Payton, and Mitchell Pottratz; siblings, Jim (Mary) Schepker of North Liberty, Kate Rangel of Bettendorf, and Mickie Wiegand of Iowa City; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Kellenberger; her former husband, Richard Wolfe; her parents, Lester and Marjorie; her brother-in-law, Joe Rangel; and her beloved dog, Cash.
