Mary Jo Leah Hart was born on May 25, 1939, in Davenport, the daughter of Matthew W. and Marguerite K. (Berg) Hart. She graduated from St. Paul’s Grade School in 1953, Immaculate Conception Academy in 1957 and later attended Clarke College, Dubuque and St. Ambrose College, Davenport. Mary Jo was united in marriage to Dr. Henry John “Jack” Jensen on June 4, 1960, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on March 7, 2009, after 49 years of marriage. Mary Jo's daughters are so very grateful to their parents for their love and faithful Catholic witness.
Early in her marriage, Mary Jo was a member of the Junior Board of the Tri-State Symphony (now Quad-City) where she supported and encouraged a love of classical music in the local community.
Mary Jo was an active member of Holy Family parish where she served on the Parish Council and also served as president of the Home and School Association. She later became a member of the Catholic Service Board for the Kahl Home. After her girls were raised, Mary Jo worked at the Chancery of the Diocese of Davenport where she befriended the retired priests. Nothing pleased her more than to be able to assist and care for her beloved priests. In her retirement, Mary Jo was called to the vocation of Secular Carmelite with the Community of St. Joseph and the Prophet Elijah and eventually returned to St. Paul the Apostle parish.
Most of all, Mary Jo loved to host holiday gatherings for family and friends; everyone was made welcome at the Jensen home.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters and sons-in-law, Eileen and Tom Heinold, Patricia Evans, Carrie and David Goldermann; grandchildren, Meredith Heinold, Elizabeth (Evans) Miller (Andrew), Rachael Evans, Matthew Evans, Mary (Goldermann) Richards (Curtis), Anna Goldermann, and Joseph Goldermann; great-granddaughter, Lily Miller; her brother and sister-in-law, M.Peter (Maryellen) Hart, Sturbridge, MA; sisters-in-law, Sue Way, Urbandale, IA, Barbara Jensen, Middleton, WI, Caryl Jensen, Williamsburg, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband Jack, Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents, and her grandchildren: Mary Karol Heinold and John Paul Goldermann. May they rest in eternal peace.
The family would like to extend their deep gratitude to the caregivers from Home Instead for their consistent, thoughtful and kind care; especially Tiffany, Tasia, and Angie, as well as for Father Bruce DeRammelaere for his ever-faithful visits with Mom to hear her confessions and to bring her Holy Communion.
