Mary Idlewine

Mary Idlewine, 78, of Davenport, passed away Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Country Manor, Davenport. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Thursday, November 5, 2026, at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, at Rochester Cemetery, Tipton, IA. Memorials may be made to the Scott County Humane Society.

Mary Jeannette was born October 21, 1928, in Le Mars, IA, to Walter Richard and Rita Mary (Schroeder) Idlewine Sr.

Mary worked at the Rock Island Arsenal from 1967-2005. She started at the lowest level and worked her way up to division chief at the time of her retirement.

She loved sewing and gardening.

Survivors include her sisters Louise Idlewine of Davenport, and Martha Freeman of Joplin, MO; sister-in-law Delmys Idlewine; nieces and nephews Chad Baetke, Hope Brouwers, Trent Idlewine, Jeremy Idlewine, Elizabeth Voss, Seth Weese, Taryn Freeman, and Michael Idlewine; and best friend Judy Stoedter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Margaret “Peg” Escheberry, brothers Walter “Pete” Jr, Rex, and Jim Idlewine. Meeting her at the Rainbow Bridge are her beloved dogs Ella and Lady.
