Mary Ellen Hernandez

October 4, 1941 — October 18, 2025

Mary Ellen Hernandez, a beloved soul and cherished member of her community, passed away from this world on October 18, 2025, at St. Anthony's Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Her family is arranging a private memorial gathering as they come together to celebrate the life of a remarkable woman.

Born on October 4, 1941, in Topeka, Kansas, to Sara and Jacinto Hernandez, she devoted more than 30 years of her life to the art of cosmetology. Throughout her journey, Mary Ellen was not only a talented cosmetologist but also an incredibly devoted mother, daughter, sister, and friend. Known for her welcoming presence, Mary Ellen had a special way of making everyone feel at ease. She was always ready and eager to assist anyone in need, and even transformed her home into "Nana's Daycare," a safe haven built on kindness and nurturing. Her dedication as a caregiver provided a loving and secure environment for many children.

Mary Ellen considered her daughter, Sara, her greatest achievement in life. Their bond was a testament to the love and dedication she poured into her role as a mother. Additionally, she was actively involved in her community as a member of the Lulac club, where she took great pride in planning the Children's Christmas party for several years, bringing joy to many families during the festive season.

She leaves behind her loving daughter, Sara Hernandez (Kevin Nowell); her brother Joseph Hernandez (Sue); her nephews Nathan (Kathleen) Hernandez and Adam (Lisa) Hernandez; and her great-nephews, Kyler, Declan, Henry, and Owen.

Mary Ellen is preceded in death by her father, Jacinto, her mother, Sara, and her dear friend, Ray Rangel.

Mary Ellen Hernandez will be deeply missed but will remain alive in the hearts of her family and friends. Her legacy of kindness, laughter, and love will continue to touch the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
