Marvin J. Stolley

Marvin (Marv/Butch) J. Stolley passed peacefully away on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. Marvin was born April 17, 1941 to Joseph and Dorothy (Rudolph) Stolley in Davenport, Iowa. He attended Davenport schools and graduated from Davenport High School in 1960. In between his junior and senior year of high school, he enlisted in the United State Marine Corps, and after graduation he entered the Marine Boot Camp, Parris Island, S.C. and then Camp Lejeune, N.C. He then served in the USMC Reserves until 1967. In 1962, he married his sweetheart, Cynthia (Cindy) M. Bunge.

For many years, he worked at the Davenport newspapers Times/Democrat and later at Bawden Bros. Printing and retired from the Rock Island Arsenal as an Electronics Planner/Estimator in September 2000. After retirement he worked part-time at HyVee on East Kimberly Road. Marvin enjoyed meeting new people, and made many friendships over the years, and often met his friends for coffee at HyVee.

Marvin was an active member at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Holy Family Catholic Church, and Our Lady of Victory Church. Marvin was a member and Assistant Scout Master of Scout Troop 35 affiliated with St. Mary and St. Joseph Churches in Davenport for many years. He was an avid reader of David Baldacci and many other authors. He and Cindy enjoyed golfing, volunteering at the Davenport Public Library, and doing crossword puzzles throughout the week but especially on Sunday, when the hardest puzzles were in the newspapers. He enjoyed euchre club with friends from past and present, where they met regularly once a month throughout the years. Marvin did extensive ancestral research and enjoyed sharing this with his family. He was proud of his service to his country and being a member of the United States Marine Corps, and proudly flew both the American and USMC flags at his home.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, granddaughter Kaela Smith, his cats Heidi, Angus, McDuff, Tiny and Slim, & Buddy 1.
