Martin Eugene Linehan was born April 30, 1936, in Davenport, to John Aloysius and Mary Carmelit (Fruin) Linehan. Following graduation from the former St. Ambrose Academy, he served in the Army from 1954-57. He was united in marriage to Marjorie “Marge” King on May 9, 1987, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport.
Prior to his retirement in 1998, Martin had worked as a mechanic for ALCOA. He was a member of Steelworkers Union #105, the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and the Democratic Party.
Marty loved the outdoors and spent as much time as he could camping, fishing, duck hunting, and gardening. His garden was a labor of love, and each year he planted an astonishing 170 tomato plants. The harvest was never just for himself. Nothing brought him more satisfaction than filling baskets with fresh tomatoes and sharing them with neighbors, friends, and family.
He was a huge fan of Notre Dame football and was proud of his Irish heritage. His paternal great grandparents immigrated to the United States during the Great Famine.
Survivors include his wife, Marge; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; and great great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Claire Frazer and brothers John “Jack” and Jim “Zeke” Linehan.
