Mark was born on August 16, 1951 in Davenport, son of Elwood and Rose Ellen (Lawless) Cook. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Brereton on September 22, 1971.

Mark was a veteran of the United States Army National Guard. He was employed with Case IH from 1971 until his retirement in 2003. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping on the Wapsi River. He found joy in being outside and doing yardwork. He was a dedicated reader and enjoyed Stephen King novels. Mark’s passion was running. He had run in 20 marathons, many half-marathons and had run the Bix 7 45 times. He was a member of the Cornbelt Running Club for over 40 years and was a member of their race team for over 30 years. During his life he made memories traveling to many National Parks around the country. Every Wednesday he could be found tasting new beer with his son. Above all he loved his family, especially his granddaughter, and will be deeply missed.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Marilyn; son Nolan Cook; granddaughter Megan Rose Cook; sister Violet (Dennis) Hammill; nieces Lisa (Guy) Robertson and Laurie (Tony) Kemmit; and many extended family members and friends he made along the way.
