Margy Patricia Powers was born on July 20, 1937 in Davenport, a daughter of Michael and Della (Scharfenberg) Powers. She graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in 1955. Margy was united in marriage to Donald Richard Laverenz on July 4, 1959 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Davenport. Don preceded her in death on September 16, 2017 following 58 years of marriage.

Margy was a telephone operator in her younger years until she and Don started a family. She took great pride in raising her family and was very proud of them. She was even more proud of her granddaughter, Michelle, whom she enjoyed spending as much time with as possible.

Margy, along with her husband, Don, were very active in the Scouting community. Margy served as a leader at all levels of Girl Scouts and assisted Don with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. She led many senior Girl Scout trips around the country and Canada and was also a creative art trainer for the Girl Scout Council. She enjoyed getting together with the “Old Biddy’s”, a group of former scout leaders.

Margy was a talented cake decorator and made countless cakes for loved ones and strangers alike. She also enjoyed bowling, attending hockey games, and “occasional” trips to the casino! The Laverenz family has many great memories of traveling and camping as well. Margy also enjoyed the trips with her sisters.

Those left to honor her memory are her children: Donald Laverenz, Jr., Robert Laverenz, Patricia Ferguson (Dan Kohler), Davenport, and Barbara (Jeff) Stanger, Davenport; granddaughter, Michelle Gravert, Altoona, Pennsylvania; sister, Della Jean (Marty) Andresen, Calvin, West Virginia; sisters-in-law: Terri Laverenz and Kathy Laverenz; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters and brothers-in-law, Phyllis (Leo) Gimm and Edna (Jim) Wagner, Mel Laverenz and Gene Laverenz. May they rest in peace.
