Margaret A. Rapsilber

January 9, 1934 — April 29, 2025

Margaret A. Rapsilber, 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, with family by her side. She was born January 9, 1934, in Spragueville, Iowa to Edith and Harry McCutcheon, one of four children.

Margaret was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose warmth touched many. She graduated from Saint Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing with an RN degree. When she was a nurse, she met her beloved late husband, Bob, on a blind date set up by friends. Margaret married him on April 14, 1956, in Galesburg, Illinois.

Together, Margaret and Bob built a successful life as entrepreneurs, owning and operating several businesses—including the original Dunkin’ Donuts, the Ice Creamery in Rock Island, and Christie’s French Restaurant in Davenport—always with their children, Beth Anne and Scott, by their side. They also enjoyed the challenge of working together in real estate.

Beyond her work, Margaret had a passion for antiquing and gardening. She also expressed her creativity through the art of rug hooking with Beth Anne and friends.

She is survived by her two children, Beth Anne Smiley and Scott Rapsilber (Robin); her grandchildren Caleb (Grace), Matt (Hailey), and Tim (Lindi); as well as five great-grandchildren: Addison, Raegan, Piper, Parker and Pearson.

There will be a service for Margaret and her late husband, Bob, on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at 2 p.m. at the Rock Island National Cemetery.

Rest in peace, Margaret. You will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
