Margaret M. Bruce

Margaret M. Bruce, 94, of Davenport, died Thursday, November 13, 2025 at Good Samaritan, Davenport surrounded by her family.

Keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place, and she was laid to rest at Holy Family Cemetery with her husband, Joe. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Margaret Mary Werthmann was born on March 28, 1931 in Davenport, Iowa, a daughter of Charles and Mary (Martens) Werthmann. She graduated from Davenport High School in 1949. Marge was united in marriage to Joseph Bruce on April 22, 1950 at Holy Family Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on June 26, 2011.

Marge loved to sew and make crafts. Her and Joe travelled to all 50 states and some more than once and enjoyed wintering in Edinburg, Texas for many years. Marge was a loving grandmother and enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren.

Those left to honor her memory are her children: Robert “Bob” (Lynn) Bruce, Davenport, Debra Bruce, Davenport, Thomas (Cheryl) Bruce, Blue Grass, Teresa Dowe, Portland, Texas, Bill Bruce, Arlington, Texas, and Mary Opper, La Porte, Texas; fourteen grandchildren, and many great and great-great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Marge was preceded in death by her daughter, Jenny Bruce, sons-in-law, George Dowe and Dave Opper; her parents, and siblings, Kathy Bruce and James Werthmann. May they rest in peace.
