Lorretta passed away on Monday, December 16, 2021, surrounded by her loved ones.

Born the daughter of Leo and Margaret Brophy, Loretta grew up as the 8th of nine children in Riverside, Iowa. She graduated secretarial school at AIC in Davenport, taking her first job at Royal Typewriter, afterwards holding other office management positions. Her skills were then applied in volunteering for Catholic Service Board (Kahl Home, Cinderella’s Cellar), Medical Axillary, and Holy Family School. Her secretarial shorthand skills were used to keep Christmas gift lists a mystery to her kids for years.

She met the love of her life, and married Dr. Vincent “Jerry” Glowacki, MD on a blind date. They were engaged within months and married soon after, recently celebrating their 63rd anniversary. They traveled the world together and loved sharing stories of their adventures. When at home, they enjoyed the Glowacki breakfasts, going to the Symphony and Theater productions.

Enjoying tennis and playing bridge with friends, she was also a loyal fan in the stands; not only for each of her kids’/grandkids’ sports and activities, but also for the Iowa Hawkeyes. She maintained a love of cooking, often using vegetables from her own garden; and baking cookies and pies.

Remembered for her smile and generosity, she believed in people, especially her kids and grandkids.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry; and their children; David (Elaine) Glowacki, Madison, WI, Susan (Mark) McClure, St. Louis, MO, Dr. Carol Glowacki, Philadelphia, PA, Patricia (Charles) Burns, Nashua, NH, and Dr. Richard (Jennifer) Glowacki, West Des Moines; ten grandchildren; her sister, Rose Pederson, Iowa City, and brothers- and sisters-in-law Patricia Brophy, Columbus Junction, IA, and Bill and Sharon Glowacki, and Don and Sandy Glowacki, all of Davenport, IA. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Dr. Jean Glowacki and siblings, Frank Brophy, Agnes Murphy, Dorothy Burke, Therese Werthman, Edward Brophy, Martin Brophy, and John Brophy.
