Lawrence V. Smith, 82, a resident of Davenport, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.  Per his wishes, the rite of cremation was accorded and there will be no services at this time.  Private inurnment of cremains will be at a later date in Holy Family Cemetery, Davenport.  Memorials may be made to the family.  Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home assisted his family.

Lawrence Verl Smith was born April 21, 1938 in Rock Island, Illinois, a son of Delbert and Esther Balluff.  As a teenager, he was a fixture at the Prom Roller Rink every Friday and Saturday night.  Lawrence enjoyed many hobbies, including his love of flowers and keeping a beautiful yard.  He loved model trains and model cars, but his passion was his love of old cars.  He was a member of the F\Kaiser/Fraiser Car Club for over 60 years.  Lawrence always had a car or two ready to show at the many car shows he attended, whether here locally or in other states.  It was said the if he wasn’t at the house, you could find him under the hood of a car.

Those left to honor Lawrence’s memory include his sister, Judith (Vic) and nephew, Thomas.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew, Timothy.

The family wishes to thank his caring friends at this time of need.  They would also like to thank Genesis Hospice Services and the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House for taking such good care of Lawrence.
