Lawrence F. Cole, 87, of Davenport, passed away August 8, 2025 at Ridgecrest Village in Davenport. Services will be held at 1 pm on Monday, August 18, 2025, at Halligan- McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with visitation from 11am until time of services. He was born September 20, 1937, in Waukegan, Illinois, son of Frank and Marannette Cole. He graduated from Bradley University with his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1961. He later obtained his Master of Science in Industrial Engineering degree from the University of Iowa in 1971. His 41-year, government career started with the Corps of Engineers at Rock Island Arsenal, included multiple managerial roles, and culminated in him being promoted to Chief of the U.S. Army Installations & Services Activity before retiring in 2003.
Larry valued education and hard work, therefore he often encouraged and helped guide his family members in achieving their career goals. He also highly prioritized attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting and school activities.
He enjoyed traveling with his family, was an avid reader, and could fix or construct most anything. He attended the Indy 500 in Indianapolis in 1951 and became a fan. Attending an Indy car race in Milwaukee annually for 40 years with three other dedicated friends was also a favorite past time. He also went to races at Elkhart Lake and Chicago racetracks and enjoyed watching NASCAR.
Those left to honor Larry's memory include his wife of 46 years, Sandy; children Debra (David) Lewis, Mike (Dianne) Cole, Angela Venes, and Rob Lewis, former beloved husband of deceased daughter Cindy Lewis; 9 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and former wife Phyllis Siddall Cole.
In addition to his parents and daughter Cindy, he was preceded in death by infant daughter Sheryl Lynn Cole.
In lieu of flowers it is kindly requested memorials be made to either the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) or the Alzheimer's Association.
