Lavern Brooks

Lavern Brooks was born on December 29,1958 in Augusta, Arkansas to

Albert Sr and Carrie Lee (Parish) Coats. She passed away peacefully on

April 10,2023.

As a child Lavern attended school in Michigan City, Indiana. In 1984 she

moved to Davenport Iowa where she worked as a housekeeper for many,

many years.

She went on to marry the love of her life Hal Brooks on June 8, 2002. After

years of being childhood friends and him carrying her books in the sixth

grade. She enjoyed watching soap operas and westerns. She also enjoyed

spending time with her family and cooking her signature chicken dressing.

In so many peoples eyes she was the one who told it like it was but also

someone you could go to for anything.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband Hal Brooks, children

Tyrone Coats, Willie (Melody) Orr, Charlotte (Robert) Biage, Kewanda

Ramsey, Marylee (Calvin) Ramsey, all of Davenport, Iowa;

siblings Lee Ella (Micheal) Westerfield, Alma Westerfield, Albert Jr. (Lori) Coats of Davenport, Iowa, Bobby Coats and Anthony Gavin of Michigan City, Indiana; 27 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren and a host of

nieces,nephews, and other close family and friends.

Lavern was preceded in death by her parents Albert Sr. and Carrie Lee

Coats, siblings Willie Taylor ,Edward Coats, Velma Hudson and Rashun

Coats and also stepmother Betty Coats.
