Kevin Scott Labenz, 65, of Davenport, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at MercyOne Genesis Medical Center, Davenport. Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Scott County.
Scott was born on July 7, 1960, in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Dennis Drake and MaryLee Wilson. He was legally adopted by Emil Labenz when he was three years old. He achieved an Eagle Scout rank in the Boy Scouts when he was a young boy, and he graduated from Benson High School in Omaha.
Scott worked for Packers Engineering in Omaha, Dubuque, and finally Davenport, Iowa, where he met a group of people with whom he remained good friends for 35+ years.
After many years at Packers Engineering, he started a new chapter in his life by starting Snack Attack Vending. When he retired from that, he was finally able to relax and enjoy some freedom. Scott was very sociable and enjoyed many activities, such as playing volleyball, darts, bowling, camping, and canoeing. He had a great love for dogs. His favorite time of year was Halloween; he loved dressing up in scary costumes.
In recent years, his health declined, but he still enjoyed talking with friends and family and watching TV. His favorite things to watch were B-grade horror films and The Munsters sitcom.
Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, MaryLee Piepho (Robert); father, Emil Labenz; brother, Eric LaBenz (Lisa); sister, Lori Labenz; niece, Joanna LaBenz; nephews, Joshua LaBenz and Blake Labenz; step-siblings, Jeannine Murray (Mike), Jennifer McAreavy (Andy), and Richard Piepho (Gayle); half-sisters, Michelle Hruska and Jennifer Hackworth; and Aunt Carolyn Scoville.
He was preceded in death by his biological father, Dennis Drake.
