Keith E. Ahrens, 78, of Davenport, died Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at his home surrounded by family.
Funeral services to celebrate Keith's life will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1122 W. Central Park Avenue, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park with military honors. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the church.Memorials may be made to the family to place a bench in one of Davenport’s parks in honor of Keith’s service to the city’s many parks. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Keith Edward Ahrens was born on June 18, 1946 at Mercy Hospital in Davenport, a son of Hubert Edward and Dorothy Marie (Eickhoff) Ahrens. He graduated from Durant High School in 1964.
Keith proudly served our country in the Army during the Vietnam War from 1965 until 1967.
He was united in marriage to Gloria J. Silknitter on May 9, 1970at the Church of the Nazarene, Oelwein, Iowa. They have shared almost 56 years of marriage and memories together.
Following his honorable discharge, when he arrived back to the Quad Cities, he began work at ALCOA. He later went on to work for Standard Oil Co. before starting his own business, Ahrens and Son Petroleum Maintenance Service. Keith then went on to work for the City of Davenport in the Parks and Recreation Department, retiring twice, but always went back to work! His work ethic was second to none and worked for the city for over 20 years.
In his younger years, Keith and Gloria spent many nights at the former Moose Lodge, enjoying fellowship and dancing, especially to the band BitterSweet. Keith and Gloria enjoyed each other’s companionship and love and must be the unofficial world record holders for games of Yahtzee played against one another. Keith had a great love of his family, was a devoted husband, and a loving father and grandfather. In his free time, he also enjoyed watching his favorite Westerns.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Gloria, Davenport; children: Chris Ahrens, Walcott, and Chad (Kelly) Ahrens, Prosper, Texas; grandchildren: April (Carlos) Ramirez, Cody Conger, Gavin Ahrens, and Grayson Ahrens; siblings: Dolores (Roger) Ralfs, Davenport, Daryl (Pam) Ahrens, Davenport, Gary (Phyllis) Ahrens, Delmar, and Craig (Tami) Ahrens, Mechanicsville; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Karen Ahrens, and a sister-in-law, Pam Ahrens.
