Kathleen “Kay” Lawson, age 80, of Davenport, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at her home. Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, on Monday, February 12, at Holy Family Catholic Church. The family will greet friends from 1:00-3:00 on Sunday, February 11, at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kay’s memory to Café on Vine, or Humility Homes and Services.
Kay was born on April 21, 1943, in San Diego, CA, to Paul and Hilda (Spangle) Whalen. She was united in marriage to John Dennis “Denny” Lawson on July 24, 1965, in Des Plaines, IL. Kay taught preschool at Growing Tree and Sacred Heart Cathedral in Davenport. She later worked as a receptionist for MidAmerican Securities Management until her retirement.
Kay used her many talents to serve her community, knitting and crocheting baby hats, blankets and booties, hats for the homeless, and sewing quilts for veterans and nursing homes. She was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church and enjoyed making prayer shawls with the Prayer Shawl Ladies Group. Kay loved her family, her community, and the Chicago Cubs.
Survivors include her husband, Denny Lawson; brother, Jim Whalen (Carrie Kalina); daughters, Cathy (Greg) Anderson, and Connie (Rob) McCain; grandchildren, Forrest Anderson (Kelly Liszka), Molly Anderson (Sean Donaldson), Kalen McCain, and Erin McCain; great-grandsons, Levi Carlisle and Quinn Anderson, and nephews, Luke Whalen and Paul Whalen.
In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her son, Patrick, and grandson, Jonah (stillborn).
