Cremation has been accorded and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, assisted the family. Kathleen Margaret Micka was born July 12, 1948, in Alton, IL, the second of nine children and firstborn daughter of Edward and Margaret (Flora) Micka Sr. She graduated from Davenport Assumption High School in 1966, and she was united in marriage to Barry Barudin on December 19, 1970, in Davenport, officially making him a full-fledged member of the Micka family.
Prior to her retirement, Kathie had been a homemaker when her children were young and then became the office manager for her husband’s pediatric practice.
Family was everything to Kathie, a sense she had from a young age. It was a family rite of passage at age 13 to make the 1700-mile trip to the family-built cabin on the Geikie River in Northern Saskatchewan, Canada. She loved reading books and often listened to audiobooks on road trips with Barry. She especially enjoyed it when Barry would read to her the works of Kahlil Gibran. She had a keen eye for design and fashion, impeccable yet subtle taste. She lived simply and elegantly all at once. Her home was her haven, and she loved being there surrounded by her family most of all. She adored babies and animals and was known to take in rescues a time or two. Those that knew her have said she was the sweetest, kindest and most loving woman, with smiling eyes.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband Barry; children Shannon (Brett) West of Davenport, Seth (Elisha) Barudin of Beaver Dam, WI, Ben (Kate) Barudin of Wilton, IA, Amy Barudin of Glen Ellyn, IL; eleven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; mother Margaret Micka; siblings Bill Micka, Jim Micka, Pam Crews, Mark Micka, Debbie Larson, Mike Micka, John Micka; and a host of loving extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her father, and brother Edward Jr.
