Judith Roper

Judith M. Roper, 82, of Davenport, died Thursday, September 10, 2026, at MercyOne-Genesis Medical Center, Davenport.

Funeral services to celebrate Judith’s life will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will take place Tuesday from 4 p.m. until the service begins at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the family to establish a memorial at a later date.

Judith Marjorie Carr was born on April 27, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois, a daughter of Harry Carr and Marion (Adlam) Carr Schurman. She attended Eagle Grove Junior College and went on to graduate from the University of Nebraska – Kearney.

Judith was united in marriage to John E. Roper II on December 27, 1964, in Eagle Grove, Iowa. They have shared over 61 years of marriage together.

Mrs. Roper taught for many years, beginning in Central City, Nebraska before spending over 20 years in the Calamus-Wheatland School District. She retired briefly before working many different part-time jobs including J.C. Penney and later for the US Postal Service as a rural mail carrier.

Judith was a loving person and true friend. She enjoyed staying busy and involved in her community, including working the election polls and getting together for lunch with her retired friends from JC Penney. She loved to read and spent countless hours researching her genealogy and learning more about her and John’s family history. More recently she found enjoyment watching activities along the Mississippi River, such as barge and eagle-watching, with John. John especially loved her cooking and the picnics she made for the river outings. She cherished time spent with the people she loved and spoke to her children daily on the phone.

Those left to honor her memory are her husband, John E. Roper II, Davenport; children: Janie Evans, Central City, Iowa, John E. (Yessica) Roper III, West Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren: Tanner Dye, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Traeger Evans, Central City, Iowa, and Kylie, Elena, and Kalen Roper, all of West Des Moines, Iowa; a sister, Carol Schurman, Mesa, Arizona, and a niece, Crystal Hedin, Tempe, Arizona.

Judith was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Ron Carr.
