Joyce passed away Sunday, August 2, 2026, at her home surrounded by loved ones following a battle with pancreatic cancer. If you stop reading right here, we want you to know that we will miss her something fierce and she will never be forgotten.
She was born Joyce Lynn Floyd on May 6, 1959, in Moline, to Vandorn Granville “Van” and Mary Jane (Barton) Floyd. She graduated from Sherrard High School in 1977 and was Homecoming Queen. She shares 3 children with her first husband David Briggs of Lynn Center, IL and she was united in marriage later in life to Brent O’Malley on August 5, 2000, in Woodhull, IL.
After high school, she started a career at Ruhl and Ruhl Insurance (now HUB International) and has worked there for the past 47 years with the exception of taking a few years off to raise children. She retired when her health forced her to, but her co-workers have remained a faithful part of her support network.
Joyce loved gardening, golfing, birdwatching, and happy hours with friends and family. But above all else, her greatest happiness came from her large family. She jumped at every opportunity to gather with them, and nothing meant more to her than being surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband Brent; son Seth (Christopher Chandler) Briggs and their children Holden and Sebastian of Liverpool, NY; daughters Kelsey (fiancée Shannon Hardin) Briggs of Fields Landing, CA, Kaitlyn (Hans) Schnekloth and their children Mildred, Fletcher, Theodore, and Arlo of Eldridge, and step-daughter Katie (Brian) Hanssen and their children Molly and Aubrey of Bettendorf; sister Teresa (Greg) Bell of Viola, IL; and brothers Ron (Cindy) Floyd of Milan, IL, and David (Jenny Erickson) Floyd of Joliet, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Barbara Jane Elliott.
