Josephine “Jo” Catherine Morelock, 81, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Bettendorf, with her beloved daughters by her side.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport. A time of sharing to honor Jo’s colorful life and legacy will begin at 2:30 pm.
Born two days before Christmas in 1944 to Theodore and Julia (Eck) Piasecki in Oelwein, IA, Jo grew up with an Iowa-bred grit that defined her entire life. On September 14, 1963, she married Gary Edward Morelock in Preston, Minnesota, a union that blessed them with two daughters. Jo dedicated her early years to raising her girls as a stay-at-home mom before reentering the workforce as an overnight stocker for Walmart, eventually retiring in 2014.
To know Jo was to know exactly where you stood. She was an "onery old lady" who was stubborn, strong, and entirely unfiltered. Whether you wanted it or not, everyone heard and knew her opinion. She loved a good argument almost as much as she loved her family.
Jo found joy in the simple and the spirited. She was often found tending to her yard, cooking up a feast (though she famously hated baking), or cheering on contestants while watching Jeopardy!. She had a soft spot for her pet birds and cats, and she never turned down a trip to the casino to try her luck at gambling.
She is survived by her two daughters, who remained her greatest pride and her closest companions until the very end, Candy Rindler and Marnie (Brandon) Kimmons; her grandchildren, Ashley Morelock, Gary (Natalia) Morelock II, Michael Morelock, Malik (Brooke) Morelock, and Eric Harris; 13 great-grandchildren; her siblings Catherine, Tamara, Julie, Janie, Michelle, and Sharon; and many nieces and nephews.
Jo was preceded in death by her husband, Gary; her parents, Theodore and Julia; her son-in-law, Karlo Rindler III; her grandson, Jaccob Morelock; and her siblings Margaret, Patricia, Theodore II, and Mary.
