Funeral services for John E. Panther, 77, of Eldridge, will be held at 1p.m., Monday, November 7, 2022 at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial with military honors will take place at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. The family will greet friends from 11a.m. until the time service Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family for a memorial to be established in John’s honor.
John died peacefully Monday, October 31, 2022 at Genesis East, Davenport following a brief, courageous battle with cancer.
John Edward Panther was born October 25, 1945 in Davenport, a son of Everett and Mary (Bailey) Panther. He graduated from Assumption High School in 1964. John served our country in the Army during the Vietnam War, primarily stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. He married Julie Jeffers in 1968 and from this union they had two sons, Mark and Brian.
John worked at ALCOA for 42 years in various departments including thermal and plate mill, retiring in June 2007. He was a member of Local 105 United Steelworkers.
John cherished time with his grandchildren, attending many activities. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. John enjoyed many activities with his brother and friends such as breakfast, playing golf, supporting Assumption football, and bowling, rolling a perfect game in 2012.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Mark (Jennifer) Panther, Davenport and Brian (Rocío) Panther, Oak Lawn, Illinois; grandchildren: Alexis, Jackson, Evan, Nolan, and Dylan; siblings: Michael Panther, Bettendorf, Kieran (Loretta) Panther, St. Louis, Tim (Debbie) Panther, Crossville, Tennessee, and Sally McCord, Bettendorf and many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Robert and Phillip, and a nephew, Jimmy Panther. May they rest in peace.
