John Linus “Jack” Kosgard, 84, of Davenport, Iowa passed away Thursday, May 1, 2025, at MercyOne Genesis Hospital following a brief illness.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2025, Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport. There will be additional visitation Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass at the church.
Funeral services and Mass with Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Davenport. Burial will immediately follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Davenport.
Mr. Kosgard was born on July 31, 1940, in Davenport, to William Thomas and Clarabel Marie (Watkins) Kosgard Sr. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Jean Campbell on August 18, 1962, in Loves Park, IL. She preceded him in death on April 21, 2002.
Prior to his retirement in 2000, Jack worked in the printing industry. He began his career with Address-O-Graph Corporation followed by Area Nine AEA. Later he became supervisor of the Production and Printing Department for the Davenport School System. Jack was employed with the school district for 21 years. He ended his career working for Threaded Products.
As a member of the Knights of Columbus, he was the 1974 Loras Council Knight of the Year, former State Director of the Knights of Columbus, and a Hall of Fame inductee. He was also a member of the Elks.
Jack was involved with the Davenport East Little League. He enjoyed being a coach and president of the league.
He enjoyed bowling and golfing. Jack was the secretary of the Sportsmen Bowling League for 40 years. He was also a past president and hall of fame member of the Greater Davenport Bowling Association.
Jack was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears, Iowa Hawkeyes, and the Indiana Fever.
Survivors include his two sons: Kevin (Shelly) Kosgard of Appleton, WI, and Daniel (Karen) Kosgard of Bettendorf, IA; three granddaughters, Hannah Kosgard (Jossymar Garcia) of Appleton, WI, Sydney Kosgard of Los Angeles, CA, and Stephanie Kosgard of Chicago, IL; two great-grandchildren, Flavia and Julian Garcia.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and stepfather Herbert Steiger Sr, siblings: Mary Jane McMahon, Katherine Turner, Lillian “Tootie” Spratt and William.
