John Robert Justin was born on August 25, 1952 in Davenport, a son of Robert and Joanne (Gadient) Justin. He graduated from Davenport Assumption in 1970. John was united in marriage to Kathleen Hueser on August 26, 1972 at Sacred Heart Cathedral.
John, who was always tinkering, worked for over 40 years as a mechanic. He loved to work with his hands and could fix anything. If he needed a solution, he would watch a quick YouTube video and take care of it. He was very creative with his punishments, “unfixing” his kids’ cars many times when they were teenagers!
John had a big heart. He was the kind of man that if he told you he’d do something, you’d consider it done. John never quit something he started. He enjoyed volunteering with Hearts for Hammers, the Salvation Army, and was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He also coached his kids’ and grandchildrens’ sports teams when they were younger.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy, children: Beth (Todd) Bloodsworth, Stephen Justin, and Sarah (Jason) Shippee, all of Davenport; grandchildren: Austin, Jackson, Ellie, Mason, Ellyse,Madalyn; siblings: Janet Potter, Bettendorf, Jerry (Becky) Justin, Florida, Jeff (Sue) Justin, Florida, Jay (Mary) Justin, Davenport, and Jennifer Justin, Springfield, Illinois, mother-in-law, Joyce Hueser, Davenport; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sandy (Gary) Hancock, Florida, Connie (Gary) Gadient, Florida, and Jim Matkovich, Davenport.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Joel and Jimmy Justin, his father-in-law, Walter Hueser, sister-in-law, Rose Matkovich, and brother-in-law, Mike Hueser.
The Justin family would like to thank Dr. El Masri and his team at the University of Iowa Cancer Center, as well as the nurses and staff at Genesis East ICU for the wonderful, compassionate care given to John.
