Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for John R. “Ray” Costello, 71, of Springfield, formerly of the Long Grove area, will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 7, 2010, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 16550 290th Street, Long Grove. Burial will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Long Grove. The family will receive friends from 12:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 6, 2011, at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, 614 Main Street, Davenport. There will be additional visitation on Monday at the church from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. John passed away at 11:05 a.m. on Monday, January 31, 2011, at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL.

John Raymond Costello was born July 17, 1939, in Scott County, IA, the son of John L. and Catherine Grabbe Costello. He married Connie R. Schebler in Long Grove, IA in 1982.

John graduated from DeWitt High School, DeWitt, IA in 1957 and later in life went on to attend Lincoln Land Community College, Springfield, IL. John was a member of the Catholic faith and the Glen Aire Neighborhood Association. He worked in various fields but always had his heart in farming.

He is survived by his wife Connie of Springfield; four sons, Justin (Kelly), John T., and James R. Costello, all of Springfield; Jason Costello of Chicago; a daughter Colleen Tangen of Atlanta, GA; one granddaughter, Katie Tangen of Atlanta, GA; his siblings, Mary (William) Bennett of Davenport, IA, Francis (Elma) Costello of Long Grove, IA, Matthew (Shirley) Costello of Eldridge, IA, Rita (David) Smith of Bonaparte, IA, Sharon (Ted) Spainhower of Preston, IA, and Joe Costello of Davenport, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Angela Costello; and a sister Pat Kroeger.
