John D. Briggs, 57, of Davenport, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2023 at his home.  A celebration of his life will be held at Davenport Lulac Club on Thursday March, 16th from 12pm-3pm. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

   John was born on February 9, 1966 in Davenport to Orville and Marion (Langhurst) Briggs. He was a cook for many years at Ross’s Restaurant, but retired due to his health. He began coaching at Davenport West Little League in 2003 starting with D.J. continuing on with Zack, Dusty & many more talented athletes for the next what would have been 20 years this summer of 2023. He also served as league president while managing his major league team, a minor team & a T-ball team. He enjoyed fishing, being outside & most importantly being a family man. Even though he was a cook by profession, he still enjoyed grilling for his own family, but being asked by friends & family to cook for their event & birthdays but most importantly the 4th of July hog roasts & for the Latin Persuasion Car Club having an incredible amount of love for the cars/culture.

   John is survived by his beloved children & grandchildren, Megan “Meggy”, David “Dboy”, Zackery “Lewis”, Dustin “Buster”, Peyton Lyn “Pey Pey”, Ayva Eileen “Buggy”, many nephews/nieces, great nephews/nieces on both sides. Lastly, all the long-time friends he met during his journey & his ballplayers.
