John Bernard Adams was born February 24, 1924 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, son of Albert B. and Verna (Weldon) Adams. Following graduation from Beaver Dam High School, he enlisted in the US Army and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Burma/India campaign.

He was united in marriage to Eleanor Kronenberg on June 22, 1946, in Beaver Dam. They met in high school when she became his accompanist for his trumpet trio. They had been blessed with nearly 68-years of marriage at the time of her passing on April 9, 2014.

Following his service, they moved to the Quad Cities where John was employed by Wagners Printers and Tri-City Blue Print Companies. He also operated his own professional photography business for nearly twenty-years.

Second only to the love for his wife and family was his love of music. He learned to play trumpet as a young man and had his own trio as a teenager. During WWII, Johnny played in the US Army band. Upon retirement he re-connected with his trumpet, playing in several local bands. John also was very proud that he could honor thousands of local military veterans with Taps solos during their gravesite committal services.

John found and relished humor everywhere in life. Over the years his hobbies included, fishing, hunting, ping-pong, jogging (15 Bix-7 Races) and golf. He was also a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, University of Wisconsin Badgers, and the Green Bay Packers.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Crest Health Center, especially station 1, for their friendship and care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Koning Charitable Fund or Koning Nursing Fund or Koning General Fund.

Among those left to honor Johnny’s memory are his children; John (Sherry) Adams, Rochester, NY; Marilyn (John) Phelan, Clive, Iowa; Nancy (Dan) Guilfoy, St. Louis, Missouri; Katie Welch, Davenport; Annette (John) Jensen, Davenport; grandchildren, Curtis and Joanne Adams, Patrick and Matthew Phelan, Kevin and Paul Guilfoy, Stephanie Herr, Nick Welch and Jill Klein, 17 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Eleanor and a sister, Doris Lutzke.
