Joann Marie Elliott, 82, passed away peacefully Friday evening, February 10, 2023 at Park Vista Retirement Living – North Hill, East Moline, Illinois.
She was born to Sam and Lois (Ambrose) Nanfito on June 23, 1940 in Omaha, Nebraska, the oldest of four girls. She attended St. Rose Catholic School, Omaha and played both the piano and organ for daily Latin Mass. Joann majored in English for two years at Duchesne College. She then married Paul Elliott on May 28, 1959. After moving to Davenport, she first worked as a para educator at Adams Elementary School, then was employed by Vera French Community Mental Center as office manager.
She loved her family and valued her faith. Joann was a continual learner, especially interested in history, and always enjoyed reading.
Joann was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Paul Exon Elliott, on September 11, 2008; parents Salvatore J. and Heloise C. Nanfito; and sister, Mary Hubbard.
Surviving are her daughter Michelle L. (Todd) Christensen, Blue Grass IA; son Jon P. Elliott, Moline IL; former daughter-in-law Pamela J. (Stralow) Elliott, Moline IL; Joseph S. (Pamela) Elliott, Wapella IL; seven grandchildren: Chad (Amanda) Christensen, Davenport IA; Ross (Hilary) Elliott, Kansas City MO; Will (Liz) Elliott, Edina MN; Rachel Elliott, Des Moines IA; Michael (Lauren) Elliott, Worth IL; Jessica Elliott, New York NY; Michaela Elliott, Bloomington IL; and three great-grandchildren: Finley and Kennedy Christensen and Meera Elliott. She is also survived by her sisters, Louise (Ken) Nielsen, Omaha NE, and Alice (Tony) Bogatz, Davenport IA, as well as seven nieces and nephews and their families: David Hubbard, Lynn (Hubbard) Santiago, Leslie Hubbard; Doug Nielsen, Julie (Nielsen) Mahloch; Amy (Bogatz) Hunter and Bryan Bogatz.
Joann deeded her body to the University of Iowa, Carver College of Medicine, for medical education and research. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport, Iowa, and a luncheon will be held afterwards in the parish’s Enright Hall.
Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, Davenport, assisted the family with final arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Park Vista Retirement Living or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
A heartfelt thank you to Park Vista and Compassus Hospice for all the loving care Joann received in her last days. We also thank Rev. Nicholas Akindele and Rev. Joseph Baker for their prayers as well as administering Last Rites, including the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick and the Apostolic Pardon.
