James V. “Jim” Hancock, 84, of Davenport, died unexpectedly Monday, November 17, 2025 at MercyOne-Genesis Medical Center, Davenport.
Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Jim will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, November 21, 2025 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 417 N. Main Street, Davenport. Visitation will take place in the gathering space at church on Friday from 9 a.m. until Mass begins. Private burial will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Memorials may be made to Vera French or St. Anthony’s. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
James Vincent Hancock was born on September 11, 1941 in Calmar, Iowa, a son of Vincent J. and Loretta C. (Devitt) Hancock. He graduated from Assumption High School in 1960. Jim was united in marriage to Sharon Martens on November 23, 1961 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Davenport. They have shared almost sixty-four years of marriage and memories together.
Jim went to work at the Italian Village Restaurant in 1962 and later purchased the business. Jim owned and operated Italian Village until it closed its doors in 1992. He then went on to a successful career selling cars at Lindquist Ford and then as a courier for Quad City Bank and Trust for sixteen years.
Jim served our community in numerous capacities and on many boards throughout his lifetime. He was first elected as an alderman to the Davenport City Council in the late 1970’s. He served twenty-four years on the Scott County Board of Supervisors, serving as Chair from 2007 – 2009 and again in 2016.
Jim enjoyed meeting weekly with his coffee groups as well as playing poker. He was a faithful member of St. Anthony Parish and was deeply proud of his Irish roots, having the honor to be named the Grand Marshal of the St. Patrick’s Society’s annual parade.
Those left to honor his memory are his loving wife, Sharon, Davenport; children: Lisa Handy, Justin, Texas, Shelley (Greg) Pucci, West Chester, Pennsylvania, Blake (Susan) Hancock, Collierville, Tennessee, Tracy (Trish Nelson) Hancock, Davenport, and Kitty (Eric) Hippler, Urbandale, Iowa; grandchildren: Rachel, Morgan, Tristan, Erin, Griffin, Charlie, Stella, Callie, and Siri; great-grandsons, Ace and Maverick, a brother, Don Hancock, Davenport as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Jan Mayer, Harold Hancock, and Mary Hancock. May they rest in peace.
