Jesse Jones, 77, of Davenport passed away, Tuesday, August 12, 2025. His family will greet friends on Thursday, August 21, 2025 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home.
Jesse was born to Clotee Hankins and Jesse Sr. on February 18, 1948. He was the second child and first boy in a family of thirteen. He attended Froebel High School. Jesse worked as a bricklayer in his early adult life, even as a part of the construction of Oak Knoll Housing in Gary, IN.
Jesse loved his family, and cherished his mother. Even though he was small in stature, he was still respected as the big brother.
Jesse was an overall quiet person, until you pulled out a deck of cards or brought up sports. His card game was Bid. He loved the game but was not the best player—no matter who he teamed with, he barely ever won. His teams were the Bears, Bulls, and the Cubs! No matter what, he could never be swayed to root for another team.
Jesse was a man of few words, but he had a great sense of humor. His laugh was contagious. Whatever you were laughing at was funnier because of Jesse.
Jesse decided to make a change in his life and moved to Davenport, IA, where he lived for over twenty years. He was the first of the family in Iowa to attend The Refuge Church where he was baptized in the name of Jesus by Pastor David Brown.
Jesse’s health began to decline some years ago and he peacefully entered eternity on August 12, 2025.
He was preceded in death by his parents Clotee and Sishman Harris, Rose and Murphy Harris, and Jesse Sr.; maternal and paternal grandparents; three nephews, one niece, and six of his siblings – Karl, Michelle, Cleofee, Maria, Linda, and Melvin.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter and only child Dr. Wendy (Carey) Carver, two grandchildren, Alysha and Tracy, and one great-grand, Kymora. He also leaves his siblings Angela (George), Monica, Celena, Teresa, Joseph (Patricia), Reginald, Mavis (Mark), and Karen; sisters-in-law Claudette and Loida; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
