Jerome “Jerry” Devlin, 69, of Moline, departed from this life completely against his will on Thursday, March 12, 2026. Per his request cremation has been accorded and celebration of life will be held from 1-3pm on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at El Patron, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Kings Harvest Pet Rescue.
Jerome Alan Ambrose Devlin was born in Davenport on September 23, 1956, the seventh of ten children of John “Jack” and Dorothy (Krukow) Devlin. He grew up in Davenport’s West End. Trying to keep up with his older brothers and sisters, he attended St. Alphonsus Grade School before graduating from Davenport West High School.
Jerry worked hard and lived in the West End until 1990 when he met his future wife Lisa Velez and took on the job that meant the most to him, Dad. Jerry stepped up as dad to Lisa’s two daughters Ashley and Nichole, and in 1992 became dad again to his son Adam. He attended all school events, even singing his own part in a recital once and coached their softball teams. He was a Diet Coke addict and passed his addiction on to his children.
An avid golfer, handyman, and professional “dad joke” comedian, Jerry spent his later years caring for his dog Lucy. He enjoyed wearing bowties and was a long-suffering fan of the Chicago Bears and Iowa Hawkeyes.
Prior to his retirement, he had been a maintenance supervisor for St. Anthony’s Nursing and Rehabilitation in Rock Island for 25 years. In earlier years he had worked in parts for Grainger.
To women everywhere, if you don’t think you’re pretty today, just know that Jerry did. You’re beautiful!
Those left to honor his memory include his children Nichole Velez of Rock Island, Ashley (James) Velez-Hagler of Dixon, IL, and Adam (Angel Mills) Devlin of Moline; chosen daughter Taylor (Josh) Swanson of Lynn Center, IL; grandchildren Ava, Peyton, Olivia, and Cameron; siblings Daniel (Deb) Devlin of Bella Vista, AR, Dennis (Olivia) Devlin, Marc (Therese) Devlin, Deanna (Mark) McFadden, all of Davenport, Matt Devlin, Jackie (Jeff) Shaw, all of Davenport, Jodi (Joe) Ineichen of Blue Grass; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Tom and Jeff, granddaughter Elsie Swanson, and great nephew Justin Duex.
