Jeanette Pauline Carpenter, 103, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, in Davenport, Iowa.
Born to John and Mattie Christen near Cedarville, Illinois, Jeanette moved with her family to Freeport, Illinois, at the age of six. She graduated from Freeport Senior High School in 1940 and began her professional journey at a local real estate agency — a start that grew into a distinguished career. She ultimately retired as Executive Officer of the Freeport-Galena Area Association of Realtors.
Jeanette was the heart of her family. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Christine Lorenz (Terry) of Lancaster, South Carolina, and Susan Stalder (Ron) of Davenport, Iowa; her grandchildren, Phillip Lorenz, Blake (Sarah) Stalder, Rachel (Sean) Click, and Troy (Danielle) Stalder; and her great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Oliver, Madison, and Julia.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 69 years, Richard Carpenter, who passed away on October 13, 2019; her parents; her sisters, Kathleen Hancock and Irene Zimmerman; and her brother, Leonard Christen.
A woman of wide-ranging interests, Jeanette found joy in her garden and at the bridge table. She loved entertaining family and friends, expressed her creativity through art, and was an accomplished seamstress. She was a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Freeport.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 10:00 a.m., on May 30, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Freeport. Private interment for Richard and Jeanette will take place at Cedarville Cemetery in Cedarville, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Stephenson County Historical Society, 1440 S. Carroll Ave., Freeport, IL.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Senior Star Assisted Living in Davenport for their years of dedicated care, and to Heartland Hospice for their compassion and kindness during her final days.
