Jean Cecilia Steen

Jean Cecilia (Schrader) Steen, age 80, of Davenport, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Monday, July 3, 2023 after an extended illness. Per Jean’s request, there will be a private burial service where she will be laid to rest with her husband, beside her parents at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries assisted the family with arrangements.

   Jean was born on May 21, 1943 in Davenport to Herbert and Agnes (Jansen) Schrader. She graduated from Davenport Assumption High School in 1961. She met her future husband David Steen on a blind date set up by co-workers from the Quad City Times. They were united in marriage on February 8, 1964, in Davenport. Jean left the Quad City Times to raise her family. She later retired from Davenport Community School District as head baker after 20 years of service.

   Jean enjoyed her friends, traveling, trivia nights, playing games, bicycling, and watching sports. Jean’s grandkids, whom she loved spending time with, brought much joy to her life.

   Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Catherine (Chris) Steen of West Branch; son, Gary (Desiree) Steen of Placentia, CA; grandchildren, Shelby Steen of Placentia, Kelsey and Chase Steen-Lasley of North Liberty; brother, Ron (Bev) Schrader of Davenport; several nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends, Joe and Marcia Teshak.

   In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, David, and a sister, Mary Jo Koranda.

   The family would like to express their sincere thanks to her personal care assistant and Genesis Hospice for all their care.
