Jean Llewellyn Longamore was born on December 9, 1927, in Freeport, Illinois, a daughter of Lyle L. and Helen Louise (Weber) Longamore. The Longamore family moved to Davenport when Jean was 12 years old and she graduated from Davenport High School in 1945. Jean was united in marriage to Martin James Hanley on March 25, 1948, in Davenport. Martin preceded her in death on November 5, 1998, following 50 years of marriage.
Jean worked as a candy packer for Brach’s Candy for 30 years before retiring in 1989.
Jean enjoyed playing bingo, coloring, crocheting, and knitting. She loved traveling with Marty, especially their trips to Ireland, Las Vegas, and California. Her creativity also shone through in the trophy-winning floats she helped create for the St. Patrick Society Parade during the 1980s and 1990s. Above all, Jean adored her family and cherished the time they spent together. She was a longtime faithful member of St. Alphonsus Parish.
Those left to honor Jean’s memory are her children: Donna (Larry) Gegner and Daniel Hanley, all of Davenport; granddaughters, Shannon (Shelby) Walsh, Viola, Illinois and Megan Hanley (Houston Griffith), Moline, Illinois; great-grandchildren: Gage, Ethan, Landyn, Aiden, KayLeigh, and Savanna; a dear friend and caregiver, Linda Good, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Marty, Jean was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Jesse Longamore, Robert Longamore, Janet Simon, and Joan Barnett, and her best friend, Virginia.
The Hanley family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Better Living – Walcott, MercyOne-Genesis Neurology Floor, and Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House for all of the compassionate care given to Jean during her final earthly journey.
