James was born June 23, 1978, in Silvis, and was the son of Jim and June (Goodman) Rockhold. James had worked for the past 16 years at John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline and was an assembler and union steward. After starting his career at John Deere, James not only found work he took pride in but also met the love of his life, Nichole “Nikki” Ihrer and they were united in marriage on October 13, 2012, in Davenport. Together they built a life filled with family, music, and countless adventures. His years at Deere shaped him into someone who valued hard work, craftsmanship, and lending a hand whenever it was needed.
James lived life with a big laugh, a creative spark, and a love for making people smile (and sometimes scream). He was a proud collector of sports cards, an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and playing disc golf, and a lifelong Minnesota Vikings fan who never wavered in his purple pride. SKOL VIKINGS!
But if there’s one thing everyone will remember him for, it’s Halloween. Each year, James and Nikki transformed their home into a full-blown haunted house; not just a few decorations, but a spine-tingling, laugh-inducing, community-wide event that drew hundreds of visitors. He poured his imagination into every detail, and nothing made him happier than hearing the mix of screams and laughter from people walking through. For many, it became a tradition they looked forward to all year long; his gift to the community, and a reflection of the joy he found in bringing people together.
He also loved taking his daughters to concerts, turning music into memories that will stay with them forever. Whether on the water with a fishing pole, on the course with a disc, or in the crowd with his family, James lived for those moments that connected him with the people he loved most.
Above all, James was a devoted husband, father, and friend. His creativity, generosity, and love of life made the world brighter, and a little spookier, for everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Nikki; sons Austin and AJ Suits; daughters Alyssa and Addy Suits; father Jim Rockhold; brother Jeremy (fiancée Brenna McCain) Suits; and sister Janelle Suits.
He was preceded in death by his mother June Rockhold.
