James O'Neill

Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial for James M. O’Neill, 80, a resident of Davenport, will be 10:30 am Friday, January 19, 2018, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 916 E. Rusholme Street. The family will greet friends Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, Davenport. There will be a family-led rosary at 6:30 pm. The rite of cremation will be accorded after the visitation. Jim died Monday, January 15, 2018 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf following a brief, courageous battle with cancer.

James Michael O’Neill was born December 22, 1937 in Iowa City, a son of Edward V. and Catherine (Donahoe) O’Neill. He was a graduate of West Branch High School. Jim married Sandra Kathryn Kaefring November 4, 1957 at St. Mary’s in Iowa City. He worked in the food brokerage business for over 30 years, retiring in 1996.

Jim was a past president of Emeis Little League. Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and was very proud of his kids and grandchildren. He was the 2006 Grand Marshall in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Those left to honor Jim include his wife of over 60 years, Sandra; children, Shelli (Greg) Miller, Kevin O’Neill, all of Davenport, Kelli (Jim) McClurg, Waukee, IA and Eric (Michelle) O’Neill, Manhattan, IL; 11 grandchildren, Anthony (Emily), Holly, Joseph (Matt), Sara (Andy), Ben, Luke, Bailey, Connor, Billy, Brock and Eli; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Ce Stratton and brother, Vince O’Neill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Michael O’Neill and six siblings. May they rest in peace.
