Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for James “Jim” Glaser, 98, of Bettendorf, will be 10 a.m., Monday, August 24, 2026, at St. Joan of Arc Parish - Vianney Campus, Bettendorf. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation will be held from 9-10 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or the American Cancer Society. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Jim died peacefully, Thursday, August 19, 2026, at The Fountains, Assisted Living, Bettendorf.

James John Glaser was born September 8, 1927, in New Ulm, Minnesota. The 9th of 10 children of Joseph and Anna (Penkert) Glaser. Jim married Carol Theresa Schugel, on December 1, 1951, at St Mary's Chapel, Fort Riley, Kansas. She preceded him in death on August 28, 2025.

Jim retired after 20 years of active military service in the Navy and Army, serving during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He served in the South Pacific, Korea, Vietnam, Germany, and numerous military installations stateside. He was awarded the Bronze Star and numerous other decorations and service medals. After leaving military service he worked for Roederer Transfer & Storage and retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1992.

Jim was active with the Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree Council 4403 of Bettendorf, 4th Degree Loras General Assembly, and Honor Guard. He was a charter member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, a Eucharistic Minister, and an office volunteer. He belonged to the Fellowship Commission and Forever Young Group. Several other organizations that he volunteered for include the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop in Bettendorf.

Jim and Carol spent their retirement years traveling all over the United States and the world and enjoyed riding their motorcycle for more than 50 years.

Jim is survived by his children: Jim II (Jeanette), Bettendorf, Debbi (Corey) Gordon, Moline, Penny (Tim) Kroul, Davenport, Dennis, Bettendorf; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. Additionally, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Eric Kroul, daughter-in-law, Julie Glaser, five brothers, and four sisters.
