James Allen “Jim” Campbell, 66, of Bettendorf, passed away surrounded by loving family on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at MercyOne Genesis, Davenport. A celebration of his life will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2025, at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until time of services. Inurnment will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2025 at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Those wishing to be in the procession to the cemetery should meet at the funeral home by 9:30 a.m. He courageously battled a brain tumor for nine years. Memorials may be made to the family, to be donated to brain tumor research and treatment.
James Allen Campbell was born August 12, 1959, in Lynwood, CA, to Dr. Patrick G. and Shirley J. (Shewry) Campbell. He was united in marriage to Mary Lynn Mueller on September 9, 1989, in Davenport.
Jim earned his MBA from St. Ambrose University, after earning degrees in chemistry, mathematics and computer science. He was a computer programmer.
Active and athletic for most of his life, he enjoyed running, cycling and playing basketball, cornhole, darts, and competitive foosball. He supported his children’s pursuits and ran the computer and timing systems for local swim teams. In addition to computers, Jim also held a strong interest in astronomy.
Above all, his family was the center of his life. Jim’s children describe him as a family protector and diligent documentarian. He leaves a legacy of love, perseverance, and quiet strength.
Survivors include his wife Dr. Mary Campbell M.D.; children Kyle Campbell, Kevin Campbell of Bettendorf, Caitlin (Travis) Gilliland of Denver, CO, Caleb Campbell of Bettendorf; granddaughter Genevieve Gilliland; siblings Cathy (John) Dutton, Tom (Kim) Campbell, John Campbell, all of Davenport, Gene (Julie) Campbell of Florida, Paul (Amy) Campbell of Davenport, Carrie Campbell of Marion, IA, Mary Clare Holladay of Davenport; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by infant son Austin James Campbell and parents.
