Irene was born on June 6, 1939, at Mercy Hospital in Davenport, a daughter of Earl and Alice (Bryson) Pitzer. She attended grade school at St. Anthony and graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in 1957. She was then employed by Northwestern Bell / US West until retiring in 1993. She was employed by MCI until her final retirement in 2001.
Irene has served St. Anthony in many ways in earlier years. She was a long-time member and president of the Legion of Mary, the Altar and Rosary Society, and served as president. She also sang in the St. Anthony and St. Alphonsus choirs. She was a faithful volunteer at Mercy Hospital/Genesis Medical Center from 1970 until 2010. Many of those years she worked in their gift shop and enjoyed it, and the people she met there very much. She was also a volunteer with Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and served at many children’s activities.
Irene loved animals and gave a loving home to many over the years. One special vacation was time spent in the parks of Kenya, seeing animals in their natural habitat. She also made several European trips where she learned about her Irish roots.
There are no immediate survivors. She wants to thank her special friends Amber Woodman and Susan Lorenz for being there over the years. She was preceded in death by her parents, may they rest in peace.
