Rev. Ida J. Berry, 91, of Davenport, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at her home.
Funeral services will be 12:00pm, Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until service time. Burial will take place in Moton Cemetery, Leeds, Alabama. A funeral service will be held at Leeds-Unity Funeral Services, Leeds, Alabama on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at 12:00 pm with visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Memorials may be made to the family.
Ida was born on September 1, 1931 in Leeds, Alabama, daughter of Robert and Martha (Adams) Ferguson.
Ida later moved to Davenport to raise her family. Ida worked at Mercy Hospital from 1965-1996 and was one of the first doing in home care. She also enjoyed rocking the babies while at the hospital. After her retirement she volunteered at the blood bank and was a proud 10 gallon donor. Ida was very loving, sweet, caring but also not afraid to speak her mind. Her hands were never idle. She was always busy crocheting, crafting, praying or spreading the word of God. She was a former pastor at The Church of God of Prophecy. For many years she would cook the meals for Sunday dinner at church. Ida was also a member at Maranatha Church of God, Davenport. She loved doing mission work and had been to Venezuela and Nicaragua. She also visited the Holy Land and traveled thru the Panama Canal three times as well as visited many islands. Ida also traveled extensively in the US and loved to stop along said of the road for flowers. She was fond of growing flowers, herbs and had a natural remedy for everything. She also enjoyed the Dollar Tree, listening to scripture daily and watching Walker Texas Ranger, Touched By An Angel, The Waltons and Little House on The Prairie. Above all her family meant everything to her and she would drive home yearly to visit her family.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Janice Payne; grandchildren Ferguson Payne, O.J. (Melissa) Payne, Natala Coyle, J.J. (Candice) Payne, Xavier (Rachel) Berry and Jasmine Berry; great grandchildren, Roban, Nihshon, O.J. II, Nehemiah, Apollo, Noah, Naomi, J.J., Jr., Justin and Aaliyah; great great grandchildren Demi and Nayanii; siblings Elizabeth Martin and Doris Jean Gaiter; and special family Jackie Ray Washington, Shaylene, Randall and Isiah Berry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Jackson Berry, Jr., siblings John Robert, Mary Francis Turner, Helen Green, Neris, Martha, Minnie, Sally, Bertha Campbell, and Mae, grandchild Jana Berry and son-in-law Nathaniel Payne.
