Mr. Gonzalez passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at his home.
Hilario was born May 16, 1929, in Villa Juarez, Coahuila, Mexico, to Jorge Gonzalez and Theodora Levia. His life was a testament to perseverance. Growing up with humble beginnings, he often shared that he didn’t own his first pair of shoes until he was 14 years old. That early hardship shaped his work ethic, his humility, and his deep appreciation for the blessings in his life.
He met the love of his life, Catherine “Cathy” Moody while she was working as a waitress in Rock Island. They were united in marriage on August 8, 1955, in Michigan. What began with a simple introduction grew into a beautiful lifelong partnership filled with faith, family, and love.
Prior to his retirement in 1992, he had been a bricklayer for 50 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, working on cars, and could fix just about anything. He was proud to have run the Bix 7 ten times. He had been an usher at St. Anthony’s and the former St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include his beloved wife Cathy; children Theodora (John) Hoppe of Eugene, OR, Clifford Gonzalez of Davenport, Antonio Gonzalez of Los Angeles; grandchildren William (Heather) Saul, Catherine DeLao, Debbie (Chris) Orwig, Elizabeth Saul, Nicholas (Skylar) Gonzalez; and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by siblings Esther, Gloria, Margarita, Herminia, and Antonio Gonzalez.
