Harvey Otto Lewin, 96, of Davenport, passed away Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Ridgecrest Village, Davenport.  Per his wish the rite of cremation will be accorded, and a private memorial service will be held.  Inurnment will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island. 

 

Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, is assisting the family.

 

Harvey was born December 4, 1926, in Milwaukee, a son of Oscar and Catherine (Bohte) Lewin. 

 

Following his discharge from the Navy in 1946, he went to the University of Wisconsin, earning his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He then went on to work at the Savanna Army Depot (1950-1965), and it was there that he met his future wife, Elizabeth “Bette” Oldenburg, and they were united in marriage on January 9, 1954, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Galena, IL.

 

Prior to his retirement, Harvey had been the Facilities Chief Engineer for the Rock Island Arsenal from 1965-1989.

 

Those left to honor his memory include his wife Bette; children Steven Lewin of Eldridge, Susan DiVita of Davenport, Kurt (Christine) Lewin of Davenport; grandchildren Katherine (Colin) Tschida of Ithaca, NY, Thomas (Charlotte) Lewin of Overland Park, KS, Michael (Emilia) DiVita of Overland Park, Jennifer (Tyler) Brodell of Iowa City, Kelly (Ryan) Waack of Wilton; nine great grandchildren; and brother Jerome Lewin of Green Valley, AZ.

 

He was preceded in death by his son-in-law Robert DiVita and sister-in-law Nancy Lewin.
