Harold Leroy Clay Sr.

Harold Leroy Clay Sr, age 78, of Davenport passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at his home. Services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, March 13, 2023 at Halligan-McCabe-Devries Funeral Home, Davenport, with visitation from 9:00 am to service time. Burial will be in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island.

   Harold was born on February 11, 1945 in Rock Island, to Allen and Allene (Jones) Clay. He was united in marriage to Beverly Green on July 29, 1967, and they later divorced. He attended the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Harold worked over 30 years in construction within the city of Davenport retiring in 2000. He enjoyed fishing, rebuilding and working on cars. He also was a gardener and enjoyed giving his neighbors the vegetables he grew. He had a special relationship with his nephews and granddaughter, Chass who helped care for him and who loved him deeply.

   He is survived by daughters, Yvette Clay of Rock Island, April Clay of Cedar Rapids, Tracy Salton-Jones of San Diego, CA, Lisa Harris of Peoria, IL; sons, Harold (Samantha) Clay Jr, of Des Moines, Michael Clay of Davenport, and Tony Salton of San Antonio, TX, 18 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

   In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by brothers, Wayland Clay, Calvin Clay, Ronald Clay, Arnold Clay, and Allen Clay Jr, and a sister, Sonya.
