In Loving Memory of Maria Gương Thị Võ, our family would like to share a few reflections on the life of our beloved mother and grandmother, Maria Vo Thi Guong. Gương was born on March 26, 1926, in Phu Huu Parish, Tay Son District, Binh Dinh Province, Vietnam. Raised during a time of hardship and uncertainty, she developed a gentle spirit, a steadfast faith in God, and the quiet strength, perseverance, and compassion that would define her throughout her life.

Like many Vietnamese families, ours was deeply affected by the Vietnam War. In 1963, as the conflict intensified, Gương and her family were forced to leave their beloved hometown and begin a new life in An Khe, Gia Lai Province. Leaving behind their home, farmland, and cherished memories was a painful sacrifice, yet she faced the future with remarkable courage, trusting in God’s providence. Gương devoted her life wholeheartedly to her family. She worked tirelessly in the fields while also making rice paper, traditional cakes, and other homemade goods to help provide for those she loved. Long before sunrise and often late into the night, she labored without complaint, believing that no sacrifice was too great if it brought security and hope to her husband and children. Her generosity reached far beyond her own household. She faithfully served her parish, supported priests and religious communities, and willingly helped neighbors and anyone in need. Her kindness, humility, and generous heart earned the respect and affection of everyone whose lives she touched. Together with her beloved husband, she built a home founded on faith, love, and perseverance. While he faithfully fulfilled his responsibilities as a soldier, Gương quietly carried the burdens of daily life, ensuring that their family remained united and cared for. After her husband’s untimely passing following a tragic accident, she continued to lead her family with remarkable strength, unwavering faith, and unconditional love.

In 1994, Gương immigrated to the United States to join her children and begin a new chapter of life. Although she embraced her new home, she never forgot her homeland, her parish, or the memories that had shaped her journey. Gương’s life was never measured by worldly success or recognition. Instead, it was defined by humble sacrifice, honest work, unwavering faith, and unconditional love. She taught her children and grandchildren not only through her words but, more importantly, through the example of her life. Today, we give thanks to Almighty God for the precious gift of her life. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, kindness, perseverance, and selfless love. Her remarkable legacy lives on through the 120 children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who carry her spirit forward, alongside the 54 sons and daughters-in-law welcomed into the family over the years. Though she will be deeply missed, her warmth, love, and influence will continue to inspire future generations of our family.

With grateful hearts, we entrust Maria Gương Thị Võ to God’s infinite mercy. May the Lord welcome her into His eternal kingdom, where every tear is wiped away and peace has no end. May the Blessed Virgin Mary, her beloved patron Saint, accompany her into the joy of everlasting life and lovingly intercede for her forever. A verse from Matthew 25:23: “Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Master.” May Maria Gương Thị Võ rest in the peace of Christ. Amen.
