Gerri was born on August 15, 1937, to Vincent and Blanche (Molyneaux) Murphy. She was raised in Davenport where she spent her childhood alongside her three siblings. She married the love of her life, Phil La Kose, on September 21, 1963, and together they built a loving home where they raised their three daughters.
Wherever Gerri went, she made friends with ease and sincerity. At the local Hy-Vee, she found joy not just in running errands, but in everyday conversation and connection. She was an avid walker, logging well over 20,000 miles at the mall and around the neighborhood, often offering a warm smile to passersby and saying the rosary as she walked, keeping loved ones close in heart.
Gerri was renowned for her chocolate chip cookies, always baked with love and shared generously. She had a gift for knitting and crafting thoughtful handmade treasures, and she delighted in collecting Isabel Blooms. Gerri was a cancer survivor and a dedicated blood donor, giving more than 10 gallons in her lifetime. She lived with grace and quiet strength, always giving more than she took.
She is survived by her husband, Phil La Kose; daughters Kay (John) Dobbs of Rochelle, IL, Karen (Louis) Lynxwiler of North Liberty, IA, and Jill Grell of Bettendorf; and grandchildren Michelle (Nick Nielsen) Dobbs, Niki Dobbs, Natalie Lynxwiler, Alex Grell, and Julia Grell.
She was preceded in death by her brother David (Kay) Murphy, sisters Donna (Jim) Hasley and Doris (Ken) Criger, and her parents.
