Obituary

Gerilyn (Spaeth) Schneider, 66, of Davenport, died Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota surrounded by her family.

Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Gerilyn will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 until 6 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home with a prayer service offered at 6 p.m. There will be additional visitation on Wednesday at St. Paul’s from 9:30 until Mass begins. Memorials may be made to the Iowa Donor Network in honor of Gerilyn’s 2008 heart transplant.

Gerilyn Spaeth was born on June 29, 1959, in Davenport, a daughter of Louis Otto and Eileen Elizabeth (Evans) Spaeth. She graduated from Assumption High School in 1977 and earned her bachelor’s degree from UNI in 1981. Gerilyn was united in marriage to Mark Schneider on April 17, 1982, at Christ the King Chapel on the campus of St. Ambrose University. They have shared over 44 years of marriage together.

Gerilyn worked as a teller at Citizen Federal and later as a billing clerk at MidAmerican Energy.

She cherished being a wife, mother, and grandmother, never missing an opportunity to support her kids and grandchildren in their activities and endeavors. She loved to crochet, making countless blankets for loved ones. She also enjoyed reading and spending time near the ocean and beaches, taking many trips to Florida, Hawaii, and Gerilyn and Mark loved going on cruises.

Those left to honor her memory are her husband, Mark, children: Kaitlin (Josh) Peterson, Taryn Schneider, all of Davenport, and Benjamin (Kayla) Schneider, Bentonville, Arkansas; grandchildren: Logan, Carter, Finley, Evan, Rylan, Luke, Bobby, and Otto; sisters, Janet Spaeth and Debbie (Bill Saul) Gustafson, both of Davenport; a sister-in-law, Gale (Zahir) Bacchus, Austin, Texas, and nieces and nephews: Michael Spaeth, Gretchen Spaeth, Heidi Spaeth, Kristin (Joe ) Crawford, Natalie (Jeff) Quinn, and Korinda Rodriguez.

Gerilyn was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Tony Spaeth. May they rest in peace.
