Obituary

Mass of Christian Burial for Gerald Howard Miller, 92, of Bettendorf, will be Monday, August 31, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport. Visitation will precede the mass in the Cathedral gathering space at 9:00 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Davenport, following the funeral. The mass will be live-streamed and a link can be found on the Sacred Heart Cathedral website on their YouTube channel. Gerald passed away Monday, August 24, in Davenport. Memorials may be made to Ridgecrest Village or Empowering Abilities, Davenport.

Gerald H. Miller was born June 6, 1934, in Davenport, IA, the son of Edward and Vivian (Schultz) Miller. He married Patricia D. Porter on June 22, 1957. They were married 65 years. He was a 1952 graduate of St. Ambrose Academy, Davenport. Gerald graduated from the University of Illinois, with Honors, with a Bachelor of Architecture degree. He was a member of the University of Illinois Gargoyles Architecture Honors Society. After graduating, he worked for Louis C. Kingscott & Associates, Davenport. In 1961, he joined Camiel F. Bracke and Francis J. Hayes and formed the architecture firm of Bracke-Hayes-Miller, Architects, in Moline, where he was a partner until his retirement in 1999.

He and his wife were founding members of St. John Vianney Parish, Bettendorf. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and attended the National Jamboree in 1950. He was a Troop Master for many years. He enjoyed history, sailing, militaria, travel, gardening, and watching golf tournaments and football games. He especially enjoyed time spent with his family. He and Pat successfully raised three wonderful children!

Gerald is survived by his children Mark D. (Judy) Miller, Davenport, Lisa D. (Michael) Romanowski, Golden, CO, and Matthew J. (Krista) Miller, Frisco, CO; grandchildren Elliot Miller and Colin Miller, Bettendorf, Ian Miller, St. Louis, MO, Taylor (Travis) Toms, Golden, CO, Harrison Romanowski, San Diego, CA, Rylan Miller, Loveland, CO, and Raina Miller, Walnut Creek, CA; great-grandson, Heron Toms and great-granddaughter, Rosemary Toms, both of Golden, CO; and brother, Gregory (Patricia) Miller, Valencia, CA; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

The family would like to thank the caring and supportive staff at Ridgecrest Village and Genesis Hospice for the wonderful care of their father.
